Into The Boys Room We Go!

All three of our boys share a room...crazy I know. When we first moved into this house our youngest was in a crib in what is now our guest room. Since almost all of our extended family live far away, we really wanted to keep one of our rooms available as a guest room. This has come in super handy to use for friends and family. Once we transitioned our youngest to a big bed we made the switch to put him in the big boy room and haven't looked back since! Ok so usually, just for the ease of things, I have been napping the boys separately and putting our middle son in the guest room (when it isn't occupied.) It is nice to have that option but also nice that they have learned how to sleep in the same room together so that when family comes to visit they have a place to sleep too. ;-)

The final decision that we would be adopting our three oldest kids occurred just three weeks before they moved in with us! It was a tad bit crazy and during that time we also found out that we would be moving in a month to a different house. I really wanted to create a space that welcomed the boys into our home, into their home...into their new room. I didn't have any bedding for any of the boys (our youngest was after all only in a crib.) I'm not usually one to go with themed, matching bedding. However I figured going with a truck theme might be special and something that the boys would be excited about given their ages at the time of 1, 3 & 6. I wanted them to have something special that united them as brothers and that would help bring the room together. With all of the transitions I had no time to paint but I did have to find some bedding!

I grabbed a few things from the Circo Build It Collection at Target. This was a great way to design a special place for the boys and have it come together inexpensively and QUICKLY!

In the future I wouldn't mind painting the walls too. With the chair rail in there it would be fun to pick two coordinating colors. However, for now it is bright and colorful and screams BOY all at the same time. :-)

One of the best parts was that we fit THREE beds and THREE dressers in there!

What have you used to decorate kid's bedrooms? Do you prefer a theme or a collection of multiple pieces that come together over time? Do you like to paint or keeps things neutral? ...SO MANY CHOICES! :-)

  1. Love the room, but really I'm commenting to say that we have an Elisha too! In the twelve years since his birth, we haven't met, or even heard of any other child, and only a couple adults with that name. Love the blog too! Blessings!

  5. You did a great job making room for all three boys in one cute room!

Our four-year-old is into anything transportation, especially trains, and reading. We just finished his big boy room. You can take a tour here: http://www.dejongdreamhouse.com/2013/02/tour-boys-room.html
