Lego Storage - Take Two

It has been a few months since we have been using our LEGO organization system. The jury is in and we are loving it! The great part about LEGOS is how many different ways you can organize them.

There really isn't a wrong way!

We got back from our East Coast road trip and the boys scored the mother load in new LEGOS...Uncle David & Uncle J's collection! A collection that was literally collecting dust at my parent's house.

We will borrow them until new cousins are big enough to use them. :-)

We decided to sort the LEGOS into the containers that are in the boy's room.

It was really fun to spend time with the boys sorting and discovering all of the new pieces.

The likelihood of the pieces staying separated for very long is slim to none with our two year old sharing the same space. The nice part about these bins is that they hold all of the pieces regardless of if they are sorted or not. Plus, as the boys get bigger this system will continue to work great (the pieces might even stay separated.)

I stopped mid-way and asked our oldest son..."Should we just keep them all together instead of going through the work of sorting them?" He replied with a smile, "No let's separate them because then it is easier to find pieces!"

It was like we were playing with them...and mommy was having a lot of fun. :-)

The great part is that even with all of the additional pieces these containers and labels are so easy to switch up. The black & grey container was too full so we shifted things around and put those in one of the bigger bottom bins. We also separated the green and yellow since there were now enough to each go in their own bin.

Sorted by color or not these bins are great to stack up and go!

Are you a sorter or an all-in-one-bin kind of person...there really isn't a wrong way, right?

  2. Please come to my house and do this for me. Seriously, LEGOs are killing me. They are EVERYWHERE and my children are older and still super unorganized.

  3. This is amazing! I know how hard it is to keep a room clean that's full of Legos, but this looks like it would work! My 13 year old still loves Legos and he'd go crazy for this room:)

    1. Thanks Laura! It is nice that this is one of the only toys in the boys room so they pretty much go in there to play with legos and then clean them up in order to walk anywhere else in the room (we have a small room to thank for that one!):-)

  6. We like to sort them by color too. And having them in bins that can easily be carried to the dining table makes building with my boy so much more comfortable. I just can't sit on the floor for so long! :) I like to keep a cookie sheet (the kind with a lip, a jelly roll pan) close by so we can dump out a bin to find an elusive piece if needed. Makes clean up easy too...all the in process projects go onto the sheet and back to his room.
