Monthly Budget Breakdown ~ May 2013

In an effort to challenge my contentment meter and stay within a budget,
I have $50 per month to spend on Decor & DIY projects for around the house.
On the first Tuesday of every month I'll show you how I spent it.

Here is the monthly break down for May...

Starting Balance = $16.79 (you can check out here to see what was spent in April.)
Income: May $50 + Starting Balance  = $66.79 left to spend

When I first started keeping track of my monthly expenses for decor and DIY projects, I wasn't sure how it would look. Would I save, save, save and then work on big projects or make little changes along the way.

This month it was more about the little changes. I found some fun pieces to add into our living room decor and I feel like the room has come together in a great way. I'd like to make some DIY striped curtains in there and paint the old school desk and then I plan on updating the living room pictures on the home tour.

Here is a look at the purchases that I made for the month of May.

First off was this "S" from World Market for $7.99.

Then I found this fun bookend at CB2 for $14.95.

I also grabbed one of these cute chick white
tealight holders from CB2 for $6.95.

Finally, I am considering this condiment caddy creation a DIY project.
I purchased the supplies for everything at Target for a total of $24.93
($9.99 for the caddy and 6 bottles at $2.49 each)

If you are interested in doing this project, check out the comment section
of the tutorial for some other great options on where to
purchase some of the supplies for a cheaper price.

Final Breakdown...
Beginning Balance $66.79 - ($54.82 May purchases) = $11.97

That about wraps it up! In looking ahead I have an accent striped wall down in the basement that I want to do as well as possibly making those DIY striped curtains (can you tell that I like stripes?) and some other small paint projects. The weather is starting to finally dry up and warm up and that means taking advantage of the few months of spray painting weather that we have in MN. :-) Here is to saving for some fun projects ahead!

On a side note...rolling around in the back of my head are thoughts about this experiment that the Nester is doing. A funny thing to mention after I just shared the decor items that I have added to my home. For different reasons I am not able to take part of her experiment this month (although I wish I could!) but I am certainly interested in seeing the outcome of what she discovers along the way.

What fun projects do you have planned for these beautiful summer months?
