Safety Is Key When Designing Kid Spaces & A GIVEAWAY!

When it comes to designing play spaces for kids, safety is one of my top priorities when creating a room. Last week I shared some of the ways that we helped make our craft area a safe place for little ones.

In the coming weeks I'll be showing you more of our basement remodel and our family room space.

One of my greatest concerns when we first became parents was our flat screen TV being secure with our young daughter around.

Here is a throw back picture of our family room in our previous home about four years ago.

The funny thing is that we specifically picked out a media stand from IKEA that we could put cabinet doors on and child-proof. However, I never felt secure leaving our daughter downstairs knowing that at any moment she could pull the tv right over on top of her.

Needless to say, one of our must haves for our new family room space was a wall mount for our TV.

Today, I am teaming up with SANUS & Safe Kids Worldwide to share a video with you about the importance of mounting flat screen TVs when kids are in your home.

SANUS is the leading designer and manufacturer of flat panel TV mounts. They are committed to consumer safety and today they are offering one An Inviting Home reader the chance to win your very own TV mount (sorry, flat screen tv not included.) :-)

One reader will win a flat panel TV Vuepoint Mount F180. The winner can even select a wall mount to fit their flat panel TV.

This giveaway runs from June 18th, 2013 until midnight on June 22nd, 2013.
A winner will be randomly selected and notified on Sunday, June 23rd, 2013.

  4. TV mounts are very important. We also like to keep our tv elevated to prevent fingerprints and scratches.

  5. I think it's important to anchor any object that could possibly tip over onto a child. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  6. I just re-decorated/re-designed my art studio and plan to install a wall mount for my TV, too. I don't have little ones to worry about any more, but if it's mounted on the wall...there's less chance of me bumping into it and knocking it down. :)

  7. Mounted tv's are great for safety, as well as just keeping buttons away from little fingers thus elimanating one more "no" to fight about! ;-)

  10. We don't have our tv on a wall mount, and I do worry about our little ones pulling it over. I am constantly telling them not to touch it. UGH!

  11. We don't have a flat screen, but my sister does (plus little kids), so I would give it to her if I win.

  12. This is such a helpful page. We do not have young children in our home, but, as senior adults, we thought about stumbling, etc., so we have our flat screen mounted on the wall. This page is a "listen-up" page!

Congratulations to the winner and some excellent ideas to keep your home safe for the little ones.

Also remember the importance of security - keeping windows locked overnight and doors locked (it can be difficult to remember in this hot weather!). Have deadbolts on your front and back doors for extra security and if possible install an alarm system.

    Hope this advice helps
