I shared recently about our new house guests. We are thrilled to have my mom and dad living with us. With nine plus people now at every meal we have transitioned to eating in our dining room for meals. A few other transitions have taken place too.
Last weekend, my parents stayed at our home while Sam, the kids, and I all attended family camp. When we arrived home my mom was grinning from ear to ear and eager to show me some changes that had happened in the house while we were gone.
They surprised us with some new furniture.
After she showed me, I was grinning from ear to ear too. Are you ready to see the changes?
If you remember I recently shared about our porch, one of my favorite places in our home. Until last week it looked like this...
That futon holds special memories for me but my mom will tell you that it is the most uncomfortable thing to sit in. If you like to curl up on a couch I think it is great, but the reality is that it is deep and really not the most comfortable piece of furniture out there.
Since having my parents with us we moved a tv that they owned into this space and it has created a little haven for my mom to come and read or watch her favorite thing on TV...the news. :-)
My parents had decided to go on a hunt to find some more comfortable chairs for their new favorite space. They even looked online at craigslist. I was highly impressed with their search efforts. :-) In the end they thought that the best chair to fit the space and for the best value was the Tullsta Chair at Ikea.
They went with red.
They went with red.
I'm a big fan of the modern look and the red fit perfectly in the room. The coral pillows that were in this space got moved to the living room and work like a charm in there.
Here is how the patio looks now...
They also found an ottoman at Kohl's for 50% off that works great for dad to put his mug of tea on while sitting in a chair that gives him good back support. It also happens to work great to store the legos in that we like to keep in this space. My parents think multi-functional too...go figure, right? :-)
Whether this room is used for a quiet retreat, hosting children who are playing LEGOS, entertaining with news, creating conversations under the twinkle lights, or providing a getaway from the mosquitoes it is a space that we all use and love.
Do you have any recommendations for finding comfortable furniture? How do you like to find certain items when you have a specific piece of furniture in mind that you are looking for?
