First Day Of School Surveys

I didn't make baby books for my children. I am a bit sentimental though and if life as a mom hadn't caught me quite so off guard I probably would have.

I do like to look back to remember and see how things have changed. I also think that one of the greatest treasures as a parent is to know your child. Like when you know their favorite kind of ice cream or you know what they want to be when they grow up.

Although it does always seem to be changing. :-)

One thing I also absolutely love is...things that are simple. It has to be simple if I am going to follow through with it.

Last year I came across some first day of school surveys from Amy at Positively Splendid. You can find them by clicking here. They are positively splendid! :-) I downloaded and saved each year on my computer so that I would easily have them on hand in the years to come.

It was fun pulling them out at breakfast during one of the first days of school and asking each of the kids some questions about the things that they love. We even reflected a little on the things that had changed from last year.

I especially love seeing how they write their name and how it changes as they grow. I am also thrilled that I can record their height and some day transfer it to growth charts that I want to make.

The surveys have all of the fun questions for you to ask, a place to right down your child's teacher's name and a place for a first day of school picture.

I put some plastic sheet protectors in a binder and keep all of the survey's in there.

And don't worry if you think, "my child is already in 2nd grade and I would just be starting now." That is where I was last year but there is simply never a better time to start!

Not to mention that it is still September. Nobody will ever know that the questions weren't asked exactly on the first day of school. :-)

Do you have a special way to remember the first day of school?

  1. Love this! I have seen the interview idea before but combining it with a first day picture and keeping them all together is such a great keepsake. I am all about that kind of stuff. Pinning this idea so I can remember it in 4 years when my little guy starts school.

  2. Okay, I absolutely love this idea. Not only is it fun for you to look back on as he gets older, but when he is grown it will be fun for him to look back on too and show his future children. Thanks for sharing and thank you for linking up to Thrifty Thursday.

    1. Thanks Ruth. I love seeing the changes from year to year and also seeing the things that stayed the same. You are right, the kids will totally love looking through these when they are older. :-)
