Writing The Word

There are days when I struggle just to get lunch on the table. In those moments when I am wiping up another spilled cup of water I turn the music up. The words help lift me up and things seem clearer. I love having music playing throughout our home.

I also have a yearning deep inside of my soul to know the word of God. Without God's word I am lost and hopeless, but with it I have life & unspeakable joy. I can't shake this deep desire in me to learn the word of God more. To dwell on the words that it gives and read the stories of days of old. Most of the time I don't fully understand every verse but this heart of mine can still grasp words that bring hope.

the book of John

I recently heard a wonderful lady, Kelly Hegi talk about how she writes down the word. She started in the book of John and it took her 9 months to finish that book. Most days she only had 5 or 10 minutes in between life as a mom but she did it little by little and it was LIFE!

I generally have a hard time reading and retaining things but when I write things down it is different.

writing the word of God

I've been writing verses that pop out to me when I read a daily Bible reading plan that I've been using but the idea of writing down a whole book consecutively has my heart screaming: YES!

Whether I get one sentence written a day or a whole page...it is LIFE.

writing out the book of John

I agree that John is a great place to start. :-)

  1. I too write down the Word. When I am praying, I write down most of my prayers. It seems to flow out of me better and then I can see in the future how God has answered my prayers. Great post.

    1. Kimberly,

That is awesome! It is so great to look back and see how God answered those prayers.

  2. Love this idea!

Our family has been attending Bible Study Fellowship for the last 6 years and nothing has been more transforming to my heart or the hearts of my children. Such solid, thorough teaching of the Word. I also love when scripture is put to music. We've got a few good scripture memory cds, but I recently ordered the Seeds Family Worship collection. I've heard it's great and I'm excited for any way to impress God's Word on the hearts of my family.

    1. Kristen,

That is wonderful! I love having the opportunity to listen to things in the van as we drive from place to place. Let me know how you like that new collection.

  3. I write down verses that I feel God is speaking to me or asking me to pray over someone. If it's a verse to pray over someone I usually write the verses in my book and then make a small book for the person. I kind of like this idea of writing the whole book! I'm gonna have to seriously take this into consideration =)

  4. I LOVE this strategy! You're right, there is something about writing it down that helps us commit it to memory simply by adding that one extra step. Thanks for the reminder - need to get back into writing the Word!

  6. What a great idea. I've always written down verses that stood out to me, but I love the idea of writing an entire book. By the way, your handwriting is AWESOME! (as in I wish I had it as a font :) )

    1. LOL...thanks Allyson. I would love a font too since I can type way faster than I write. ;-)
