Chair Shopping And Discoveries Made

When we last left off we were without a dining room table and functional chairs. Today I am happy to say that we now have chairs...and a previous craft table that is standing in until we DIY a farmhouse table.

Here are a few inspirational pictures that I was really drawn to when it came to picking out chairs.

I really liked the modern white chairs but Sam assured me that he did not. So I went on a mission to search for chairs that met our criteria...easy to clean, somewhat slim & a price we could afford. At some point I learned a few things.

1) Chairs are expensive especially when you are looking at buying...ten.
2) Certain chairs might look nice but how exactly do you clean that pretty fabric...(I am SO serious about how often our crew spills milk!)
3) Maybe we aren't going to find the perfect chair that is going to last 20+ years, but instead the best chair for our current family dynamics and in a price range that works for us...ding, ding, ding...we have a winner!

I did a little window shopping at Target, World Market, Home Goods & IKEA. I have a plethora of chair photos on my phone if you are in the market. In the end we ended up picking out these from IKEA.

I was actually a little confused when Sam said that he liked them. They looked awfully similar to my original inspiration pictures. Basically we liked that we could wipe these clean, mix up the pattern a little and that they stack great.

One of my favorite touches are the patterned chairs that we picked out for the ends.

Now that we have been using them for a few weeks I will say that the legs don't always sit flush on the floor when no one is in the chair. So sometimes when you first sit in them it takes a second for everything to level out. But they really are comfortable to sit in.

Currently we have eight chairs set up around the table and the two extra ones stacked nicely next to the coffee bar. They are so slim you can hardly notice that they are stacked.

I'm looking forward to working on the table project but I'll be honest...the craft table is a great temporary solution and has me just soaking in the fact that we don't have to use those pesky tablecloths anymore. I'm not sure how motivated I really am to get started on that table...only time will tell.

  1. I love your chair choice. We're looking to replace our chairs in the not-too-distant future. We'll need to buy at least 8, so I feel your pain on how expensive chairs are :)

  5. I just realized that we are going to need new dining chairs soon too as the ones we currently have are gradually giving out. I love the idea of scouting stores and just taking lots of pictures before picking one out - that will work well for me and my hubby!

  6. I love how you are mixing modern with traditional. I also love the pops of colors throughout the room. I didn't even notice at first that it was a craft table! Do you remember where you got your light? Love it.

    1. Thanks Rhonda, the mix of modern and traditional was quite on accident and is now one of my favorite parts about the room. The link to the light is...

  8. I too am going to make a farm house table. But I am going to put a bench on one side for the three boys. And then some funky chairs on the other side. I have to tear out a wall first though 😁
