Monthly Budget Breakdown ~ June 2014

In an effort to challenge my contentment meter and stay within a budget,
I have $50 per month to spend on Decor & DIY projects for around the house.
On the first Tuesday of every month I'll show you how I spent it

Here is the monthly break down for June...

Starting Balance = $-6.59 (you can check out here to see what was spent in May.)
Income: June $50 + Starting Balance = $43.41 left to spend

I probably haven't talked enough about why I do these monthly budget updates. My heart is that you won't feel overwhelmed by the ideas that I share on this blog. Instead my hope is that you will feel encouraged to make whatever changes you want to make in your home...or maybe don't want to make but like seeing someone else do. Ultimately...I am a real life person with a real life budget for transforming our home. It doesn't happen overnight (unless you've ever been on the Extreme Home Makeover show!) and hopefully these little updates will show you how I make decisions when it comes to implementing projects at home. I certainly don't "do" everything that I pin and I am learning how to stretch myself when it comes to the art of homemaking.

Now on to June...

This ended up being a great month to get a few organizing projects done. The first (and super easy!) one that I tackled was hanging our measuring cups & spoons. I picked up the measuring cups for $1.97 from Walmart as well as the measuring spoons which were $1.67. The command hooks came from Target and totaled $11.16. The total cost for this project was $14.80.

Ok, so did anyone else catch the missing measuring cup in the top right corner? I would guess that everybody did...except me. :-)

It was a HUGE relief to finish creating our modern homework station. I had picked up all of the supplies from Target back in May and can hardly believe that it is completed before September!

The clipboards were $1.99 a piece.

The clear desk organizers that I put in the corner were $5.99 each.

And the two white board calendars were $8.79 each.

Everything else we already had on hand. The grand total for this project was $39.51.

Final Breakdown...
Beginning Balance $43.41 - $54.31 (June purchases) = $-10.90

I'm not sure what July will hold but the wheels in my brain are always turning...

What helps you get motivated to work on home projects?
