Monthly Budget Breakdown ~ July 2014

In an effort to challenge my contentment meter and stay within a budget,
I have $50 per month to spend on Decor & DIY projects for around the house.
On the first Tuesday of every month I'll show you how I spent it

Here is the monthly break down for July...

Starting Balance = $-10.90 (you can check out here to see what was spent in June.)
Income: July $50 + Starting Balance = $39.10 left to spend

July was a really fun month for us. We spent some quality family time at camp, had multiple visitors come and go and have been enjoying this beautiful weather. I really enjoy the pace of summer and having the kids home. We try to spend as much time outside as possible so during these summer months I try to forgo bigger projects and focus on small projects that can be done around the house.

I also shared how I did a little guest room refresh which included a new mirror to hang on the door. The mirror was $9.99 from Aldi.

One of my favorite posts this month was sharing about our living room rug...or lack there of. I had no idea that purchasing something only to return it would make such an impact on the way that I previously viewed this space.  What almost cost me $200 from this budget (and would have put me in the DEEP red!) ended up costing me $0. (Phew!) This post explains the whole story.

Finally, I did a little update to our shoe closet by updating some labels. This door is always swinging open and closed during the summer. It is really nice to have things like sunscreen accessible and easy to grab. All of the supplies used for this project were actually things that I had on hand...score!

I'm thrilled to be walking away from July with money in my pocket! Let the August DIY/Decor projects commence!

Final Breakdown...
Beginning Balance $39.10 - $9.99 (July purchases) = $29.11

Did you complete any fun projects in the month of July?

  1. Do you count taxes in your budget? (I assume there was tax on the $9.99 mirror.)

    1. Keturah,

Great question! I don't factor in tax because it makes it more difficult to recap. Also anything from Target that I purchase I use my debit red card and save an extra 5%. I don't note those savings on the recaps since I figure it goes towards covering most of the tax.
